You can, and it is fine to enjoy it — but hold one line firmly: never tell your child what their chart says about who they are. Children believe what their parents say about them, and a label given at six is still being worn at thirty. There is no evidence that a chart predicts personality, and there is very good evidence that expectations shape children. So the risk here is not that the astrology is real; the risk is that you are, and your child will make the reading come true.

Your child’s positions are exactly computable — the same arc-second astronomy as any chart, and genuinely interesting as a record of their first moment. The nakshatra the Moon occupied at their birth is a real, precise fact with real cultural meaning. None of it measures temperament.

What the tradition says (interpretation)

Many cultures cast a child’s chart at birth — the Vedic janma kundali is a long-standing, meaningful family tradition, often used for a naming syllable. Traditionally it is read as a map of tendencies, not a sentence, and good astrologers have always been careful with children for exactly this reason.

The decision-science move — what to actually do

Keep the ritual and drop the verdict. Cast the chart, use the nakshatra for the name if that is your tradition, put it in the baby book — those are lovely and cost nothing. Then never use it as an explanation of their behaviour, especially out loud. "She is a difficult Scorpio" is not an observation; it is an instruction. If a relative has already told you something ominous about your baby’s chart, you are allowed to simply discard it — no classical text supports doom-reading a child, and the cancellations exist precisely because the tradition never meant it that way.
